Need a Ride to….Socials….Church?Our Vestry members have taken note that some of us don’t feel comfortable driving after dark, and that does get in the way of some Parish functions….like the Seder coming up, Patamania and other galas. SO, if you would like a ride, several would like to pick you up. We’ll come get you – don’t want you to miss out! First Sunday Food Please remember the poor amongst us by bringing our contributions of canned and dried food the FIRST SUNDAY of the month! Junior Daughters of the KingJunior Daughters will gather Sunday, March 2nd at 11:15 AM to start work on the Easter baskets and gifts to our shut-in Parishioners. Their annual Easter Communion visits will take place on Holy Saturday, March 22nd from 10:00 AM until they’re done.YOUTH TRIP TO BALTIMOREY(outh) O(f) E(mmanuel) will road trip to Baltimore on March 7th and 8th. Cool museums and things are on the itinerary. Please check with Karen Thayer for details. Our Youth Class, by the by, will be heading to Boston in April in time to take in the annual Patriots’ Day celebrations (which have nothing whatsoever to do with football) LENTEN OFFERINGSFor those who start late, or fill up and start over, a few “Mite Boxes/Treasure Chest” are still available for our Lenten Offerings in the Cloister. These are for children, adults and families. Our Diocese has asked that we continue our support of the Millennium Development Goals of ending global poverty and world hunger through these offerings. To be specific, the direction of our Lenten discipline will be “Bread for Itipini” – a village of 2500 souls in South Africa. St. Catherine’s CircleAs February ends, the members of St. Catherine’s Circle thank everyone who participated in the special project in support of the Allegany Animal Shelter. Dog and cat food, kitty litter, a pet toys, a warm blankets, a donations were received in abundance, but if you missed, they are still welcome. Financial donations will go to the Shelter’s non-profit Foundation. CONFIRMATION/INQUIRERS’ CLASSESThe date of Confirmation in Western Maryland will be at the end of June, which means that we will be starting classes for young people and adults who wish to know more about our Episcopal/Anglican Church much later than usual – after Easter. Please see the Rector for details.
HOLY WEEKPALM SUNDAY, March 16th – will begin our keeping of Holy Week. The 8:00 service will include the choral reading of the Passion Gospel and Blessing of the Palms with Holy Eucharist. The 10:00 service will begin on the West Lawn (or Parish House) with the Blessing of the Palms and Procession into the Church. The Passion Gospel will read with the entire congregation participating, and the Eucharist will conclude in silence. WEDNESDAY in HOLY WEEK, March 19th – the Lenten Eucharist will be celebrated at 7:00 AM.The Holy Week Quiet Day will begin this year at 9:00 AM and continue until 1:30 with the Holy Eucharist at 10:30 and lunch at Noon. Please note the schedule change!The Passover Seder will begin in the Lower Parish House at 6:00 PM. Please make your reservation in the Cloister or by calling the Church. Choir rehearsal will follow.MAUNDY THURSDAY, March 20th – The Thursday morning Communion with Holy Unction will be celebrated at the High Altar at 10:30 AM. The Maundy Thursday liturgies of Holy Eucharist, Stripping of the Church and Tenebrae will be celebrated beginning at 7:00 PM. GOOD FRIDAY, March 21st – The Office for Good Friday will be offered at 12:00 Noon and again at 2:00 PM. Stations of the Cross will be offered at 1:00 PM. The full Good Friday Office with music and Choir will be offered at 7:00 PM. HOLY SATURDAY, March 22nd – The Great Vigil of Easter (with Holy Baptism) will begin at 7:00 PM in the Baptistery. EASTER DAYServices will be at the usual 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Education classes will not meet during the 10:00 Festival Eucharist. The Egg Hunt and reception will be at 11:30 AM. Hunters are reminded to bring along Easter baskets (though there will be some spares). Reception Goers are reminded of the tradition that this is something of a BYO. Please bring along something to share – a traditional family sweet, perhaps, or just basket overflow. WEDNESDAYS IN LENT PROGRAM WRAP_UP For last of our four Wednesday evening presentations on the Nature of Anglicanism will be offered on March 12th. The topic will be “Our Mission in the Modern World”. We will begin with a celebration of the Eucharist at 5:30 PM. At 6:00 PM, the will be a Pot-Luck Supper in the Parish House. “Kid-friendly” food will be included, and young folks for whom the presentations are not appropriate, there will be ‘Study Hall” in Emmanuel House.
